Day 5, Rudy is becoming predictable and wise.
Observation of the initial minutes of Rudy's cleaning cycle has been a recent addition to my daily bucket list .He'd missed a few days work. Apparently he needed a "mental health day." (Actually he missed his charging time and had no energy.)
The first spot Rudy vacuums is under the grandmothers buffet.(Yes, that is plural grandmothers. It belonged both to my parents' mothers. ) I've even noticed that some days he goes under the buffet two or three times. I label it his favorite spot. If Rudy gets stuck and moved to a new location, the buffet dust bunnies are swept away, again. If Rudy has trouble finding his home base, more under the buffet dust bunnies are searched for and given a new home in his dust bin. When Rudy is under stress, to the buffet he goes.
Rudy's work plan justified one of my daily goals for Life. Do your favorite thing everyday, even if just 5 minutes. I overheard a friend give this bit of wisdom to another in a stressful situation. I've practiced it for years. Usually this habit is one of the first things I do each morning.
Giving myself those 5 minutes (which in retirement can be must longer than 5 minutes) provides me stress release, moments of enjoyment and a sense of accomplishment. My "under the buffet" diversions are quilting, knitting or in a pinch a good mystery novel. Amazingly those 5 minute interludes have produced quite the list of completed projects. My craft room is usually a disaster zone, littered with interlude projects in the ready. My husband likes me to keep the craft room door closed for his sanity!
Rudy's wisdom is more than "stop and smell the roses", don't miss a spontaneous moment. No it's a plan for it, schedule it, do not miss it, gets me out of bed, daily habit.
Five minutes can affect the course of the day. Five minutes can put life in perspective. Five minutes will put a smile on your face. Five minutes will prevent gray hair. Five minutes will help you lose weight -- No, not really - I made up the last two so I'd have five five minute advantages. Perhaps one of you would like to explore those options. I experienced the first three.
I look forward to those 5 minutes I schedule those precious 5 minutes.I need those 5 minutes. When I had a real job, I got up early to have those five minutes. I think I was in a better mood because of those 5 minutes.
Thanks for the lesson, Rudy.My craft room calls me to "come in and play a while." It's all part of my job! It's going to be a good day!
